A few samples from a rather warm day at the final Rally Oz to use the famous water splash.

Pons in his Xsara:

Rally leader Mikko Hirvonnen. Will be his first win if he can keep it on the road tomorrow:

Petter Solberg demonstrating how to take the yumps just before the water splash. Could have used a second body as I had my 300 on all day. Not enough time to swap out lenses before the cars arrived at the water splash.

Gabriel Pozzo in his Evo IX just before stage end:

It's been a great rally. It's a real shame to see it leaving Perth this year. What a stuff up by the state government.

Great set of shots, did you manage to get into any of the stages away from the spectator points. WRC is in NZ mid November, so was wondering how long the roads were closed before the stages were "live"

Lenz,

No I didn't as I didn't have a media pass. I actually marshalled at Rally Australia back in 96 so I can tell you that the stages are closed hours before the first car comes through. For example for the Bannister stages I was up at 3am to close the road for a 8-9am first car through.

So you'd need to be pretty keen to "hide" out in the stages before the marshalls get there, if it's anything like Rally Australia in NZ.

I've got to get across for a NZ round one of these days. They look like fabulous roads.

They are pretty tough cars. I think they run something like 60mm struts so they can take quite a beating.

Those are awesome shots. I love WRC, but we are shafted in the US. Speed dropped it's TV coverage, and I haven't seen anything from the entire season. It's pretty frustrating.
