The Queen's View seems to have been named after both Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Victoria, and is up near Pitlochry in Scotland. The view is down Loch Tummel towards Glencoe, and the mountain on the left is Schiehallion. Schiehallion (the Fairy Hill of the Caledonians in Gaelic) was used by Nevil Maskelyne in 1774 to calculate the mass of the earth, and also led to the invention of contour lines on maps. The photos were taken last sunday as part of the third fabled Scottish POTN meet.

Very Nice John

You guys made the right decision to head up there.

If I was to pick a favourite it would be the 2nd shot for it's variety of colours and clouds :)

Lovely images, John.
I agree with Scottie, the second is the pick.
Great sky.

Bonus points for the excellent supplementary info on Schiehallion.

#2 does it for me, John. The touch of blue sky adds another dimension and some nice color contrast to the dark foreground.

Very nice. Love the clouds (movement) in 2

Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Thank you for looking,

Thank you Marie, Scottie, Cameron, Jim, and Krista.

As to the bonus points Cameron, thanks! I need all the points I can get until my photography can stand by itself!

......... and that evening looked so unpromising too. Both of these are stunners, John! :) I prefer #1 myself.

Thanks JD, Dimitri and Mike.

I think the problem with 13 photographers on the same trip is trying to keep together, and when John and I left for Queen's view, everyone else seemed to be setting up on the footbridge for River Garry.

I can't decide which one of the two I prefer. #1 I like for the more golden colours, and #2 for the sky detail.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Lovely images, John :D Beautiful light in both, but I think the clouds in the second do it for me.
