IPTC what do you use

I would like to know what is the program that you use to input your data. Is there a programe you use that is just for IPTC? I know of BreezeBrowser and using PhotoShop CS2. I have read that you should not use PhotoShop for IPTC.

I really dont want to install another programe to edit images, I will if its a good one for IPTC.

What is it that you like to use for this? And can you put your info into more than one image at one time?

It depends what your needs are. Personally I use Photo Mechanic, but probably my use is a bit different. I need something fast and PM is probably fastest one. But it's just for preview, selection, captioning and transmiting. It doesn't have any editing functions so you have to have another program for that.
In case if speed is not so important, then I guess you can do those things in PS too. But on the other side, PM is much more when it comes to this. It can ingest files from card and on same time rename files, add caption (same one to all files of course), sort them into directories etc. But you have to decide if it's worth $150 for your need. It definitely is for mine

I just looked at PM, it looks very good. I think that it is a program that I would like to try.

I would like to use IPTC for archiving purposes, that way I can find the images that I am looking for at a later date. I could also have a desciption of the image and so on.

I have 4 boxs of images from my film days and its hard to remember where thay are all from. I would like to put a stop to that. One day I will be gone, It would be nice for my grand kids to be able to go through the photos and know what, where and who the images are of. When you look at some of you grand parents photos, you ask who is that or where is that.

I will scan the film images one day and ad that info as much as I can. But for now all my digital shots, I would like to add that info as I go.

Yes it came from this, and I started to use it because agency I was working for required that. But with digital going this way as it's going, IPTC will be adopted by hobby photographers too... sooner or later. And I suggest to jump this train sooner and not later And because exactly this reason you stated.

Yes, I dont think you have to be a pro to use the tools that we all have available to us. I know lots of hobbyist try to get the gear that the pro's use. The hobbyists try to learn how the pro's use PhotoShop to edit there images. So why not do like the pro's and use IPTC and tag our images for archiving.

It would be nice to find the images you are looking for. I dont want a family member to come over to my house and ask me if they can get a print of such and such place with so and so in that photo. Just to tell them, I cant find the one they are looking for or it will take me some time to find that image for them. Call me back in a month or so, I should have it then for you.

I think that IPTC is a very important tool that should be used by all. I know that I am new to the use of IPTC, but it is not hard to learn at all.

I use Idimager, it can add IPTC data when downloading from the card, when your categorizing it and when you edit pictures (for instance for publishing on the web).

Because it is as slow as molasses when compared to Iview and photo mechanic. Batch tagging is quick and painless.
