ef-s 17-55mm f2.8 USM focusing window

Did anybody notice that, when focusing on infinity distance on this lens, focus distance window shows 3m distance and not infinity? That actually happens only in wide zoom mode. When you go 20mm,28mm or 35mm marking moves a little from 3m to infiniti and at 55mm it is almost on infinity, but never all the way on infinity. My other zoom lens Tamron 19-35mm doesn't do it.

I just did a little test. 17mm and 55mm with AF and MF. Object was about 100 yards far. At 17mm with AF distance window showed a hair over 3m. For MF, I set it to exactly on infinity mark. F5.6, 100 ISO, tripod, mirror lockup etc...All these are 100% center crops. AF made better job in both cases. It's just more obvious at 55mm. Strange...
