I wouldnt get the 70-200 IS because i hear the the IQ is better on the non IS. You will love the 30D. It is outstanding! Can you comment on your immediate first impressions of the 30D and how it compares to the XT? "That building in the background is distracting."

I'd say go for the body since you have an awesome telephoto and you're content with your other glass. Dorman, how do you like your 17-40? I am thinking about replacing my 17-85 with that. My! Gear! It is like moving from a Mazda3 (which is great) to a BMW 545i (which is a slight upgrade)... REad this entire thread... It is only two pages of short comments, but it is pretty much gone over well enough. Everything said has been my thoughts so far. HERE BTW, calzinger, what is the '1x Seiko watch' in your sig? I have the Kinetic Seiko, its sweet. What is the 1x? I actually took a look at that thread earlier today, but it's always better to hear from people who have actual experience with both cameras. Were the differences between the cameras, like the focusing speed, quite noticeable? How do the viewfinders compare? Do you think the larger LCD really will be beneficial? I'm sure the new controls took some getting used to, but after overcoming the learning curve, is the layout more efficient? "That building in the background is distracting."

Were the differences between the cameras, like the focusing speed, quite noticeable? Honestly, only having for a day, i cant say just yet. I think it may be faster, and willing to bet money on it being a lot more accurate. How do the viewfinders compare? I looked through them both at the same time, (it was goofy looking, believe me) and the 30D is a TAD bigger, but for some reason, just looking through the 30d alone, it makes a world of a difference. I felt like i was looking through a full frame. no, not really. Do you think the larger LCD really will be beneficial? Yes. I am a big chimper. (only to myself, im touchy about OTHERS looking at my unprecessed work ) anyways, It was a lot easier cunducting my ISO and IQ 'tests' today on that half inch bigger screen. A swell upgrade. I'm sure the new controls took some getting used to, but after overcoming the learning curve, is the layout more efficient? After almost 12 hours with the thing, I know it almost better than my XT. It is quicker and more room as well, since the body is larger. In the long run, i would say definately more efficient. I wish i couldhave started with a 30D. But then i wouldnt be able to appreciate i guess. As for the "1x", it's just to note that I only have one Seiko watch. ![]() I have a seiko (kinetic) and my dad has an old, big, serious seiko kinetic... does that make me "2x seiko watches"?? ![]() ![]()

Nov 03, 2006 20:45 | #55 Thanks a bunch for the answers. The reason I'm planning to upgade the camera is actually because of the limitations that the XT has. I've been telling myself that I need "more camera", and I'm hoping the 30D can give me just that. "That building in the background is distracting."

Nov 05, 2006 13:55 | #58 I've pretty much decided on the 30D over the 70-200IS. I'd just like to hear more about the 30D, possibly from users who have made the same upgrade that I plan to do. "That building in the background is distracting."

Countless times have I lost a shot op because the camera went into timer mode when I didn't even realize it. It's even more embarassing when you're shooting posed portraits, group or single. I do this a lot too (and that's also why I'm fighting with the decision to upgrade to a 30D). Changing focus points is also a pain in the arse and often results in messing with the aperture or SS.
