Shot From My Last Sitting

This is a shot from the other night. I am starting to get a few portrait session bookings, let me know what you think.

Hey Chris Not too bad, but next time you try this see if this improves your overall image.

1 raise the baby up another 6-8 inches. I use a foam brick covered in black dark brown cloth.
2 Try to make a fairly tight triangle with the heads of Mom Dad and Baby. remember to keep your head hights of the adults staggered.
3 Crop Tighter to remove the excess background camera right at the top it occupies nearly 1/4 of your total image area as wasted space.
4Have your clients wear lighter clothes, light yellow and greens photograph great in B&W.
5 Raise Dads head up so that you can see his face. This will happen somewhat once you raise baby too.
6 Don't let your clients hands to rest on shoulders or hips/sides unless you can see the arms too, fingers should not be growing out of funny places
7 In this shot Mom has very large hands so they compete for attention away from baby.
8 If you want baby to look at you, then make funny noises.... When the little bugger looks at you trip the shutter.

Some good advice there Les. I think you just about nailed it. I've got one of these type shoots coming up too so I've made a note of some of those points for myself, particularly the clothing. Thanks.

You can try using a webster to tickle the baby and then pull it away just before you snap the picture. It will make them smile and look at you all at once. Basically it's a duster on a long pole. I'd suggest using a new one...
