Plus, you're getting this lens to be a wideangle - so why not go as wide as you can? You're not getting it just to link smoothly with your above focal range.

Yeah, I see. I still don't know which one is best suited to me, but the Sigma build does look like it would be suited for me the best as the Tokina looks millitary rugged-like. I'm not about to buy for at the minimum another few weeks so it doesnt matter.

I have had the Canon 10-22mm and I now have the Toki 12-24mm.

To me they are worlds apart. The canon is built like a consumer lens - it feels lightweight and not especially durable. Optical performance is OK, but having had a 17-40L I was not satisfied with the results from the 10-22mm. I sold it earlier this year.

A few months ago I picked up the Toki 12-24. This is a world of difference. Build quality is much more like my 17-40L was and the optical performance is really good too. I found it a much nicer lens to use.
Plus it is a constant F4 as agains the variable on the Canon and F5.6 on the Sigma.


If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.

Hm, that's good to hear. Did you miss the 2mm on the wide end?

Man, this seems to be one of those decisions everyone is giving me a different opinion, and I hvaen't seen an compraison of all 3 with quantitative data and sample photos showing sharpness and the like. The sigma looks interesting too, although it only covers 10mm vs the 12mm the Canon and Tokina cover (although it seems that the 2-4mm on the longer end matters less.)

ONLY covers 10mm? I think you're mixed up. 10mm covers a 102.4 degree field of view. That's going to be substiantially wider than a 12mm lens.

Yup, correct me if I'm wrong but
Canon 10-22 = 12 mm (10,11,12,13,14,15,16,​17,18,19,20,21,22)
Tokina 12-24 = 12mm (12,13,14,15,16,17,18,​19,20,21,22,23,24)
Sigma 10-20 = 10mm (10,11,12,13,14,15,16,​17,18,19,20)

Get the Tokina, you'll like it. If you don't like it, sell it and get the Sigma, then you'll like it :D

I found that the Tokina is pretty wide on my 20D. As said above, the build and the color are great. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

BTW, do you really need a WA lens? I only used my Tokina 3-4 times total and am thinking of selling it to fund other lenses :)

I want to use it for taking weird approaches to things, getting down low, doing landscape shots (wish I had it when I went to the Cn tower, of course it wouldn't matter as I forgot my cf card) and that type of stuff.

Don't see any CA, perhaps the photo is just downsized too much though? BTW, you have a beautiful kitchen :).

Jagwire, if you're into automotive photography, having a UWA lens is a lot of fun. Pans are still possible, too.

Unless you're shooting against a really bright background then CA will show up. I try to avoid those situations and shoot at night :D
