Hi,

I did pretty much this shot on purpose. I was quite happy that I saw the picture before I took it. I would like to know what is " wrong " with it I guess to see what i can learn. I did have time to take more ( and did ) and animal willing i could actually pose him before he became intrigued by the sound of my lens focussing..

I think you got a great capture here. Very pretty cat! :)

I also like it, but maybe the DOF is too short for me. Also, the hand of the girl is weirdly cropped at the edge of your frame.

It's a great shot, but agree that the DOF is too narrow. I'd have like to see more or the hand (and fingers) in shot, forming the foreground leading up to the cat, and then to the figure in the background.

Still love it though.

I like it. OK, it's got a cat in it, so I was always going to like it. But it's a really gorgeous cat. And I don't have a problem with the DOF - you've gone for a deliberate effect there and I think it's worked really well. Two minor things I would change though: (1) The background is a bit 'busy' - that multicoloured pillow, plus the blue and white thing top right, plus the girl's red and black outfit, plus the bare shoulder, adds up to just too much clutter and distraction. (2) The hand in the foreground isn't just badly cropped, it's also disconcertingly huge because you've used a wide-angle - best to leave the foreground clear so nothing distracts from the cat. But it is a lovely cat. (Did I say that?)

nice capture.

in an artistic sense, I wouldn't include the person in the BG, this is unnecessary. However, for the purpose of an album there is strong purpose for this in the composition.

I like it, although I agree a slightly wider DOF would help with the prominent paws.

On the cat's left eye there is a distracting white pixel, just away from the core phong, at the border of the pupil and iris, which I would clone out.

I like it, i think it is a good capture. The kitty is the subject, and the girl in the background makes it look cool too.

Thanks for this comment. Do you mean that if it wasnt a family cat , the image is in your view better served free of background distraction ?

Hi, the pixel im working on , its the product of sharpening i think. Ref the DOF , i was so busy trying to blur the arm . im going to play around a bit with DOF now to understand just how wide the focal plane becomes at a given suject distance with F stop.

The out of focus face is difficult to look at - hurts the eyes.
