Just curious--were you born in the Bahamas or did you immigrate? Is it expensive to live there?

I was born in the UK, but lived abroad most of my life. I'm married to a Bahamian and have lived in Nassau for about 25 years. And yes, it is expensive to live here! Ask Anna Nicole Smith  Seriously, it is - I'm lucky if my weekly grocery bill for the two of us is less than $170.00, and I don't buy more than one or two pieces of meat a week, gas is still over $4.50 a gallon in Nassau, which means it is probably over $5 a gallon in the family islands. Property prices have skyrocketed, so much so that the average Bahamian, unless he or she has inherited land, will find it difficult, if not impossible, to purchase property. I'd say we, my husband and I that is, are surviving. We run a 5 room hotel, and at an average of $75 a day per room, we just about make it. Keep in mind that if we run at over 50% occupancy in any given month we feel we are doing well! No-one pays income tax, but we have to pay a government tax on every room we sell. Everyone has to pay import duty on just about everything. Kudos to the person who decided that computers and cameras should be duty free!! I have to import everything for my Canons, as the brand is not sold here at all, not even point & shoots. Now that FedEx is charging a fuel surcharge on top of their already exorbitant rates, I don't know what I'll do. A friend in NY wants to send me a small package - she investigated FedEx and came to conclusion that she could send me an elephant cheaper by USPS Global Priority. Apparently the shipping costs are much less within the US and Canada! And we are only 150 miles from Florida. We make up for the cost of living by saving our pennies and taking trips to Ft. Lauderdale for shopping sprees in the outlet malls and flea markets!

But there are compensations - the weather for instance!

They are all excellent, but you can't beat the colour one - I think it has the best perspective and the colour of that water is amazing! A very calming image.

I like the first one best EA,how about taking another shot and raise your camera a bit. Thanks for sharing.

Looking at the color one I think I prefer the B&W. More powerful of an image.

I like the first one, but I agree that the top of the dome needs to be there. By the way, my wife and I were married under that dome!

And thank you, all of you for your very encouraging comments. Bluefish, when was the wedding? Do you remember the Friday craft markets at Sandals? I've been taking part in those since about May of this year.

So living in Paradise has it's down side???? I was in Nassau many years ago and loved it.
I'm still envious, despite the costs!

Our wedding was 07 November 2000. Anniversary next week! Wish we could be there for it. We love the Bahamas. We've been to Nassau (obviously), Freeport, and Marsh Harbour--each has its individual charm. No, I don't recall the craft market. I'm sure we would have enjoyed that. Do you ever shoot weddings at Sandals?

No - I have no desire to do weddings, too much stress, not enough experience! Besides, Sandals would charge ME $350 to shoot a wedding on their property. They used to have Vincent Vaughn, a local photographer, do them. He does beautiful work. When they realized how much money he was making, they hired a bunch of youngsters, gave them a week or two's training and shoved them out to do the weddings, charging the same as Vince used to charge. I was talking to one of the youngsters once, and he didn't seem to have a clue about F stops.

Lucky Mrs. Bluefish, you remember the date ;)

Wow! That is terrible. Our photographer, and I use that term loosely, was one of those youngsters. Nice enough kid, but the pictures were, to put it very nicely, rather adequate.
