Righto, on a coupla previous outings it's been suggested we do a "Manual-only" challenge, the Great Kiwi Old School Challenge (GKOSC)
Rules being: pick a focal length (50mm preferred) manual focus, manual shutterspeed, manual apature, no chimping.(there were others but my memory isn't as good as it once was...)
Thought behind the challenge was to get the thinking working rather than blindly trusting the machine to calculate it all, and move one's feet rather than using zoom-composition.

Well, on this weekends' G.K.P.E. we actually attempted to do this. Here's the best of my fairly average bunch of pictures, feel free to add your's ( doesn't have to have been on a G.K.P.E. photoshoot either)

Here are the rules of GKOSC:
Aim: Emulate a fully manual film based SLR camera – this is a challenge not a competition

Rules:
- One lens only, preferably a prime, a zoom is OK if you do not have access to a prime
- Lens set to Manual Focus
- Camera set to Manual Exposure
- Rapid fire turned off, one frame at a time
- Select a single ISO, and do not change it
- Select Daylight White Balance
- No chimping and no deleting of bad shots!
- A 36 shot limit (single roll of film)

Not everyone participated, I learnt or remembered (from my manual camera days) the following:
- It takes a lot longer to set up a shot in full manual
- AF SLR's with no focus aids make really bad manual focus cameras
- Chimping has become a habit, hard to kill, I now do it automatically
- Initially I saw no point to the challenge as it was crippling a perfectly good camera...

However what it did teach me was how much of a range there is in the light levels in a given environment, from one place taking a photo of different subjects I was seeing at least three stops of "correct" range, this was en eye opener for me and made it worth the exercise :)

Anyway a couple of shots (nothing spectacular, but something to look at) my lens of choice was the Nifty and "film" ISO100:

Here's a couple from my efforts this morning -- straight out of the camera, converted into jpegs via RSE05, then resized for web on CS2. Full manual, no chimping ;-)a
