Caydence - Up & Coming Tricycle Model

Taken today... first time using the new 24-70 in the "studio" ... I love having a focal length < 50mm and a lens that snaps to focus like a lens should!

bolanteg, I was using a black muslin so, I didn't really want to light up the backdrop and in fact removed what was left of it in post. I'd probably have prefered to see her again something other than black here but so far that's what I can work OK with. I'm still practicing with the white and 1 scenic muslin I have. I need to pick up or make some more colorful muslins.

I love the dark background and the whole picture.

a light on the b/g would show seperation of background and where the flash fell off on the back of the tricycle...inho i lub it tho very tasty shot

A star is born! Wonderful image, great expression and technically very nice but could use a bit more background light IMO. Just enough to get some more separation/definition.

The pose is cute, as is the child. However, it would have been a lot better if:
#1 You had a lighter background ... something in a medium tone. #2 You had light in her eyes #3 You had used short lighting and not broad lighting and lit her face from behind.. #4 You had put light on the bottom of the scene including her feet. It's good but could have been much better.

As for going short versus broad/light in her eyes, I'll keep that in mind the next time I have my assistant (wife) getting her attention. Obviously I couldn't tell my one year old to pose and hold it so that she was facing the main light.

As for the setup, I'm only working with 2 strobes... one was used with a large octabox (the one which she's unfortunately not looking toward) and the other was bare, but bounced off of the ceiling. I'd like to invest in a couple of more lights at some point to have more control over the background lighting but when I'm shooting against the black muslin, I don't really want to light it... though I agree, I should probably consider using a different color depending on the props/outfit.
