My youngest is now nine months old. He's just learned how to pull himself up on our coffee table. All those things we used to think were out of reach, aren't. Here he is with the first thing he found after pulling himself up.

Both shots with my 85mm, ISO 800, house lights only, 1/30th @ f2.8.

Hehe, that's a lovely age - our oldest is well past that (at 2.5), but the little one is only a few months away from that now. We're now thinking our house survived one little one, so is pretty safe, but I'm sure he'll prove us wrong!

The first is excellent - very nice DOF. I never had television when I was a kid unless it was a clear winter day . Amazing how much things change in ten years.

I love the first shot!

Here's a tip in regard to the remote. Before you let him play with it, set it to one of the devices that don't affect the TV or the cable box (AUX for me... DVD would work too ;)). Then he can fiddle with it all he wants without changing the channels or increasing the volume - and you don't have to remove the batteries!

Haha. I remember that. She still goes for the remote all the time now, saying "buh buh" meaning Little Bear. She got to see 1 episode and that is all she wants to do now. I have one of the Philips Pronto remotes though, so she doesn't get to play with it.

Great pictures and good luck.:)

I know some people who have a dummy remote that never has batteries for this purpose . I think they also save old cell phones; their boy enjoys playing with those as well.

Thanks for the comments. The DOF in the first shot one of the things I'd been looking for when I decided I wanted this lens. It's rare that I get a completely clean background, but with this lens, I can really minimize the distraction a cluttered background provides. Add in its capability for indoor and lowlight action shots and it seemed like the perfect choice.

His oldest brother used to call the remote the "thank you" because everytime he picked it up, we'd put out our hand, he'd hand it over, and we'd tell him thank you.

Our middle son was given a old remote with its batteries removed by my parents. He thought it was great for about a day. Then he realized that no matter what buttons he pushed, nothing happened. It wasn't nearly as appealing after that.

This one is equally attracted to everything electronic -- telephones are also a huge draw. He has no idea what they do, but he sees everyone else in his family with them and doesn't want to be left out.

I've tried giving my daughter remotes without batteries, doesn't work. She knows which one will make the TV react. She's even more fascinated with the telephone. We just let her play with it (we don't have long distance, so no worries). Funny story though... my buddy at work calls me and conferences in his voice mail. What do I hear on the line? My wife singing Old Mcdonald! Apparently my daughter accidentally navigated through the caller id list to his number and hit 'Talk' :) The other day my grandma called asking if I'd just called her... negative! Guess her great-granddaughter just wanted to chat :)

Kids are so smart. I tried that old remote without battery thing too, and they are so much smarter than us. Love those photos. Great captures. If you took the temperature down, it would be less tan, but the lighting in living rooms are so unpredictable these days. The warm yellows are just fine.
