Enjoying The View

Was at the beach today and was trying to get some landscape shots and this couple walked up to check out the view. What do you think

Very nice. You should have got them to turn around and smile, you could of made a couple bucks.

Well,they usually are a pain in the ***,if they are not standing in front of you,they throw stones in the water.

With the open space to the left, I probably would have had them look in that direction. But it is a nice shot as it is, and their clothes contrast nicely with the rest of the colors.

This would work for my assignment due later this week lol. I have to take a few candid shots. I think this looks great.

A little to the left would have got me the Port Huron shoreline, thanks for the nice comments.

I like the image - it looks like it should be in ad copy for something. I like the contrast of the clothing too and can't help but comment on the contrast in clothing between the two of them. She does NOT appear to be dressed for a day at the beach.

I think JT meant have them look into the open part of the frame (which is left) instead of aiming more left.
I like the way the grass in the bottom left frames the shot.

I second that. He means that it would have been nice if they hadn't been "looking towards the outside of the frame". And I agree.

But it's a great shot.

For me they make the shot. Without them I feel the shot would have been a bit 'empty'.

Just my opinion, but agree that it would be better if they were looking toward the centre of the view.

An we know you didn't place them there... that it was kind of a candid.
The only reason we say that is you become more interested in what they're looking at instead of the image... so your attention is more focussed on what's not there... making the image secondary.

If they were looking left, then it would be put into context... they'd be looking within the frame, and that's where your attention would go. In this case, they'd be gazing at the length of the lake... wondering how it could be a lake... and that it looks more like an ocean.

It's pretty high contrast too... the foreground grass and sand look overexposed a touch while the jacket is totally black.
Did you shoot that in RAW or JPEG? If JPEG, this is a case where you might want to drop the exposure a touch and drop the contrast as well to keep the dynamic range of the image.

BTW, I think that's the same section of grass I took in the foreground of my sailboat shot on my blog.

You had no control over the subjects, you shot what you saw.
I think it's a very nice shot, and I really don't care what they were looking at.

Thanks everyone for the comments, this was shot RAW if I remember correctly.
This was taken at the northernly end of the parking lot at Canatera Park close to the concession stand.
I was trying to immitate a shot I took back in March that my wife really liked and wanted framed.
