This is Westgate, part of the old city walls of Southampton (the English one).

This is where your founding fathers left in the Mayflower, where you see the bollard is roughly where the quayside was (the land has since been reclaimed).

Just thought you might like to see your heritage...

I think the U shaped outline behind that boat is the same width and draft as the original boats. Could be wrong though.

The old walls are pretty interesting around there, but very difficult to capture photographically.

I actually took this angle of the gate as a little joke at our American friends. The view from the other direction, through the gate into the city is artisitcally more interesting (up a street to an old timbered house at the end).

I took the other angle just to highlight how we managed to cope with the loss of our bretheren by building a roundabout on this historic location and sticking some flowers on it.
