This is Myles little buddy, Charlie, at the Downs Syndrome walk last year in Portland, Maine. I am using this photo to demonstrate the difficulty in shooting the more translucent skin of some younger people. Note the sharpness of the face paint as compared to the softness of the skin surface....thought it might be of interest to some having trouble getting photos of kids thinking the photos are to soft!...and I think Charlie is a cutie as well....CC or comments always welcome (This was shot with a lowly canon 75-300 lll on a nice sunny day...)

Great shot. That's really interesting about the softness of children's skin.

And he is super cute!

I think you caught him just at the right moment. I like the way he is looking at the brush.

Very cute! The skin tones are amazing. I like the peach fuzz along the side of the face to

Thanks you all...It's my favorite shoot every year, the Buddie Walk...it goes on for the afternoon but never seems to be enough time to shoot everything I want to....I highly recommend attending one in your areas...Good for photography and good for Downs awareness...

You captured that skin softness perfectly. Incredibly rewarding shot there.

I can only bow down to your prowess...

Yes, an excellent moment capture, and a fine fine job on the skin tone - funny you should mention that about the translucent appearance of some children's skin - but it is true, that sometimes photos of them do look "soft" but maybe you can't place why...interesting observation. Nice work!

Aha!
Duncan, Pete, Clive and I all shot the Auckland Downs Syndrome Association Buddy Walk here a couple of weeks ago.
The kids are fantastic, they just love the camera, but thier skin is so pale a lot of the photos have a very soft look to them.
Now I know why :)

I will post some photos as soon as Iv sorted the remaining 600 :)

So long and thanks for all the flash

Thanks for looking and kind comments everyone....Hey Moppie, look forward to seeing those photos...Ya, the skin thing,, that's where I started really hard to focus on the eyes with kids...when the eyes look great then everyone is a bit distracted from the soft skin presentation...sort of a slight of hand !!...My son was down in Kiwiland last year ...did you happen to run into him...he is a bit loonier than I am and doesn't look like me..does that ring a bell??

This was the first year I was involved, a friend was part of the organising comittee, and they needed some donated photography time.
What was your son up to while down here? I might have seen him in the media if he was loony enough :D :D
