Hello,

I am on the verge of getting a 30D and not sure what lens to go with. I will get maybe the kit lens or something slightly better for that range but also want something with a bit of length but around the £300-£350 mark maybe a bit more. I am going to get the 400L or 300L IS +TCON 1.4 next year when I have saved up again but want something to go with for the next 6 months or so...

Any recommendations would be great.

Cheers,

Tommy.

P.S. Of course I could go with the 350D and get the 400L now :( Decisions. Does the 350D compliment the 400L lens? Is it too cheaper camera for such a lens? Would the 30D make a lot of difference to the 350D with such a lens...

Canon 70-200 f4 L... This is a smoking lens for the money... Very light too.

what do you want to shoot. the 400L is great for birding, one of the best. but if you want 400MM in your situation (only having the kit lens) i would go for the 100-400L IS. but any of those lenses would be a big commitment. mabye just get the 70-200 and see how much reach you need. but once again what do you want to shoot?

70-200 F4 or the 200L 2.8. Both are in the range and are great lenses.

You could always go with a 30D and Tamron 80-400 right now if you want.

Next year I need a lens for airshows, which is why I will be getting the 400L 5.6. In the meantime something around the 200mm or higher to fill the gap. Going to the WRC in Wales in a month ( think 200mm will suffice) and then will use it for general stuff untill the airshow circuit kicks off.

Will look at the Tokina/Tamron stuff. Only reallly looked at the canon lenses (the 70-200 f4 looks sweet) and the Sigma ones.

Would the 70-200 f4 be ok in the welsh hills for the rally? It does not get too light up there.

Cheers.

Why don't you go for a 200 L 2.8 and a 1.4TC?

That gives you an effective 448 mm f3.5 (I think, someone will correct me if i am wrong)
