Suggestions Please: Family around fire pit

Anyone have suggestions for lighting around a fire pit?

The family wants to take a photo while sitting around the fire pit. What would you suggest for lighting the area without washing out the "camping" look and feel?

We're thinking of taking the shot towards dusk.

Hmmm, i'd use the fire :p You could use a flash, on manual, with a orange gel/filter over the flash head so they match the color of the fire a bit closer.

Good idea. At a certain point in time, you should be able to partially balance the fire & faces, & still get a darker background. Shoot RAW & try this to fine tune the results:
