wouldn't using the cloudy WB screw up the whole WB? as in while it may boost saturation, its just not the correct WB setting!

I found that cloudy WB produces extremely over saturated colours.
Surely they would use custom WB?

oh i dont know, its not that bad - i quite like it too.


i used to deliberately play it on the local bars jukebox just so that the CD would stay in the jukebox without getting replaced ( they would only replace the ones that didn't get any plays )

The barman said the jukebox guy did comment on questioning why the CD was always getting played!

Taken ten days ago on Huntington Beach CA. Had a great chance to chat with these guys and learn about how to photograph surfers (which was completely new to me). I felt embarassed with just a 70-200, but it was great to spend some time looking through a 600mm lens. Neither of these guys shot RAW, only JPEGS, and both have done two page magazine spreads shooting JPEGS.

Only she-men and geeks shoot RAW, I agree.

So PetKal, what's the difference between she-men and ghurl-men? Is it something to do with the manties they have to take off before they are in the raw? Being naive and having led a very sheltered life, all this is new and confusing to me...

All I shoot is JPEG, I have learned how to get the exposure right the first time, and in doing so I have had no need for RAW. Pixel peepers will jump on me at this point and state that I am throwing away 1/3 of my image info by not shooting RAW, but this is balogna when it comes to print.

Shooting JPEG helps me keep deadlines, and it also affords me the ability to hand images over to clients straight out of camera...not to mention the card space saved. I have never met anyone else in my line of work that shoots RAW, we basically think that it is plain silly.

No, neither guy was using a custom white balance, just set to cloudy, which they said was perfect for shooting surfers. It warms up the colours alot though. I believe that Bryan Peterson recommnends doing the same thing on bright days, just for the warmer tones......makes us old Kodachrome slide guys feel better

Ohhh, very simple......she-man is a grown up ghurl-man....nothing to do with panties or lack thereof.

A lot shoot jpg + raw though, if its for higher quality print such as Sports Illustrated for example.

I asked about this too, and the guy on the right said he has been published in SI many times, with JPEGS only.....I'm starting to rethink my RAW only position

No, real men seldom need to discard anything because they know how to hadle their cameras & lenses like they know how to manhandle their women.
However, by contrast, real men often have to discard their women after they fail to keep up.
