The 10-22 is the EF-S lens I have due to plans for full frame, if you need ultrawide on a crop camera the 10-22 is the best choice IMHO. On full frame 10mm would be so wide as to be of limited use and my feeling it is the one EF-S lens that is justifable.

You could also get the 17-40, I have both. When you move to full frame the 17-40 will take over the role of the 10-22.

If you are talking sharpness then the 17-40 is sharper but the 10-22 is much sharper between 10 and 16 if you get my drift.

The two lenses cover completly differnt FOVs.

I see you have the 18-55 and if that covers the focal length you need and you just want a better quality lens then the 17-40 is agood choice... If you find the 18-55 restricting and want wider then the 10-22 is a better choice... My 17-40 is as wide as I need to go when I use it on my 5D...

18-55 is wide enough most of the time... there is the odd time i wish it was wider!

But im really after something that is going to be really sharp!

My 17-40 is really sharp, but there are some that say they theirs are a little soft at the edges...

A friend of mine owns the 10-22 and I've seen great results with it.

I own the 17-40 and rarely use it.

As to a nice studio lens, the 24-70 is a better choice, though more expensive.

I shot with one of the pros on this forum in her studio. She had the 17-40 and was not happy with it. It was a small studio, and ultra wide angle lenses can give perepective difficulties, especially if you are close up.

Also, if you're going FF, why get a lens that you'll not be able to use?

I use to own the 10-22mm EF-S, I preferred my copy much better at the 10mm end then the 22mm. And I used the 22mm a good bit when I was using this as an indoor lens. Build of the lens was a tad lacking in my opinion, for that reason I eventually sold my copy. And I purchased the 17-40L, which I use as a normal zoom on my 30D and an ultra-wide when I need one on my Elan 7 film body.

If you need an APS super-wide the Canon rates very high in most reviews. However, If I did it again I might be tempted to save a good bit and opt for the Sigma 10-20mm DC HSM. I just don't find the Canon EF-S being worth it's current $650-ish market price for me.

Maybe if it had L build, but my copy started to go loose and creek around the zoom ring just infront of the focus ring. If you notice when folks do drop this lens it breaks there. I never dropped my copy but it did take a bump or two while around my neck and I was leary of the long term build.
