Studio Kit Recommendations

I'm currently looking at getting myself some studio lights, and have been trawling through the forums looking for recommendations & advice on makes & models etc.

The size of room I hope to be using will be 4m wide by approx 4.5 m long, with a ceiling height of approx 2m. It's a converted upstairs in a bungalow so there is also a slight slop in the ceiling. I have been looking at the Elinchrom DLite2 kit, but I'm not sure whether I should be going for 150W / 200W / 250W etc for that size of a room? Would it also be worth while getting a kit with 1 softbox & brolly as opposed to 2 brollies? My main interest would be to do some high key stuff. I'd say my budget would be in and around £400ish. I also looked at the Interfit Stellar kits, but not sure how good they are? I was also confused by the Tungsten 3200K lamps as opposed to the Halogen ones etc.

I know this is a pretty broad question, but could you give me any good recommendations as to a good kit?

Thanks, Steven

I went with the dlite 4 kit from studiokit direct (very good to deal with) they also sell other kits including the dlite . I went the dlite route as I heard so many good things about them on the net and in magazines. Ive heard lots of bad things about interfit, they are cheap because they are cheap. I havent used my lights much yet, still very new to all this but they seem very well made and come in to small bags that you can take around with you.

My room is even smaller than yours so the 4 kit is probably over kill for now for me, but i didnt want to mess around upgradeding.

just my 2 pence.

Hiya Mate
Your studio is very small so anything too powerful will be overkill. Also the roof is not very high, therefore you will not be able to get the softbox/brolly as high as you would like. High key lighting could be a problem as lighting the background would severely curtail the room you have from the side (assuming you use a strobe/brolly to do this). The Bowens Gemini Esprit are very reasonably priced and very easy to operate. I think the 250W version will do you nicely (even these could be too strong) and you will probably find yourself working on 1/5 power for the main light if the background is illuminated.
Good Luck
