I took these photos of my nice at the beach a couple of weeks ago. I had just gotten my new Tamron 28-75 XR Di. These were shot with a Rebel Xt. The results made me really happy, but I'm new to portrait photography so comments are appreciated.

Thanks. Yes I did use a flash, but it was just the pop-up. I don't know the settings off hand, but I was shooting f2.8-3.5 most of the time because the sun had just gone down and it was getting dark quick.

I love the background in the top right image and how your niece just pops off the screen. Shame she wasn't looking at you like in the bottom right image.

The flip up flash does a fine job when using for fill. Nice photos. :)

Nice collage. The shots are great. I particularly like the top inset. I've got the Tamrom also and it's a great lens. You're gonna love it.

Thanks for the feedback. Reading on this forum, I see a lot of comments along the lines of "yeah my lens is a soft copy" or "I lucked out and got a super sharp copy!". I thought these images looked very sharp when I zoomed in for close examination, so most of the credit probably goes to the lens.

I have had the 28-75 for a while and a few months ago the front ring split, I may have caused that. So I sent it in to Tamron for repair and ask them also to check the focus etc. When it was returned it was much more solid (tightened up) and sharper, sort of glad it broke.
