I've just got back from a short break in the Lake District and thought I'd share with you a few of my best shots. There were only a few photo opportunities due to poor weather, but I tried my best and was determined not to be put off. C&C welcome as always!

This shot was taken at Ullswater, thought the fallen tree added to the wintery effect of the reflective water.

This little stream made it's way down the valley towards Buttermere.

And finally a shot of Ullswater. The image doesn't really portray the changing light, and I could kick myself for putting the horizon slap bang-in the middle. The FG is also a bit naff, but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Excellent work - total beginner you might be but it's not at photography!!;)
Three great shots, love the first.
Waterfall is brilliant but just a tad blown, only just mind you and my monitor has been questioned before:rolleyes:
Nice.
Regards Alan.

Very nice, you have a good eye. I especially like the waterfall, and the leaves on the rocks in the FG. With #3, you could crop some of the sky off that and it will look more balanced. I looked at it from the point of view of cropping the sky or the FG, but for me I think it looks better leaving the FG and cropping the sky, because the colours add so much more interest to the picture than the dark grey tones of the sky.

Actually, I quite like these images...way to make the most of your opportunities! Each photograph has an interesting foreground, and the sky is properly exposed in all of them. Did you do some balancing in PP of shadows/highlights? or ND grad filter?
Well done!

Really like all of them, particularly the first. Almost looks as if the tree is trying to push itself back up into a standing position.

the lakes are such a beautiful place regardless of the weather conditions. You should be able to find some great shots in the worst of condtions but the thing is motivating yourself to go out in the foul weather! If you ever do it please let me have your secret!

It's nice to see pictures of cumbria, please post more

Beautiful shots! The fallen tree is really appropriate for the dismal look of the weather. Love the waterfalls. Did you put the leave there? It added a nice touch of fall. The contrast of the grass with the dark sky in #4 is outstanding.

You have captured the area incredibly well on what seem to be challenging conditions. Youhave a good eye and provide some very nice lead in's and anchor points. Number 1 would be my favourite i would say. Hope to see some more. :)

Thank-you everyone for your comments!

Waterfall is brilliant but just a tad blown

I agree, the water is a bit over-exposed. I did try to take a spot reeding, but the 30D has quite a large spot area (3% I think) and it was tricky positioning it so that I excluded any dark rock.

Did you do some balancing in PP of shadows/highlights? or ND grad filter?

No balancing in in PP. I used a 2 stop ND grad in the 3rd picutre, but the water was so bright in the 1st that the sky retained enough detail without any grads.

Did you put the leave there?

I must confess that I placed the leaves on the rock, after giving them a dip in the water ;)

Three different compositions, and all three are very nice in their own ways. I particularly like the rich colours of #3 with the shaft of sunlit ground.

I like your first shot,a bit overwhelming (too much tree in the frame) but apart from that its a good capture.
Nice one.
