I just got a used 28-105 3.5-4.5 lens. It's about 3 years old and seems to be loose at the focus ring.

I'm trying to figure out if a screw inside is loose or a part broken.

Does anyone have taking apart instructions?

I already went to: http://www.photoscene.com/sw/tour/inside.htm (external link) but it's not enough info regarding taking it apart.

I'm not afraid. If it's something small it sure beats the canon charge.

There's probably not enough info in most places because they don't want to encourage people to take their lens apart.

I've found the problem. It's the same as in the link in my first post. one of the plastic tabs is broken. I'm going to try and glue it back on.

Anyone knows where I can get replacement parts for this lens? Does canon sell them?

I think I can handle it. It's not a big problem and will hold until I get a replacement part.

I don't need to take the whole lens apart. Just remove the mount and the PCB under it.

I fixed it. Took the lens apart (not that hard) and glued that plastic tab back with some reinforcement. It's not moving at all now.
