Do a search for "Bigma" . You'll probably find plenty of posts extolling the virtues of this reasonably priced, well-regarded super tele.

I have no complaints about it.

Its the only tele lens that I own and it suit me for all I need.
Super sharp ( of course I dont mean to compare it to a 400 2.8 )

Little heavy , after 2 months I bought a manfrotto monopod for it (that way I can spend an intire day with it and eliminate camera shake)

Canon 30D - Peleng 8mm F3.5 - EF-S 10-22 - Tamron 28-75 XR Di ( next buy ) - Bigma 50-500 F4-6.3. - Speedlight 580ex

A very versatile lens. I've even used it as a walk-around lens; in fact during the time I had it I never mounted it to a tripod or a monopod.

Still use and love mine, certainly one lens that will always remain a part of my kit. It's a very able lens and is great value for the cost factor, but like all things it's not to everyones liking and like all things there is a learning curve, but spend the time with it and it will reward you well. It is my main lens I use and I've been enjoying it for well over a year now.

It's a rare time I use a monopod or tripod, I tend to use it 99% handheld and enjoy a high keeper rate.

Cheers Wayne :D

Its a good lens, but it definitely has a learning curve. It isn't a forgiving lens. You need to know how to maintain exposure while minimizing camera shake if shooting handheld, which can become an issue at 500mm.
