I had that lens for about a month or more, and I never noticed it in a single shot of mine. Try real world shooting. See if it bugs you. Obviously, whatever fall off you got pretty much disappears stopped down. I stop down anyway when possible, for the most part.

I have to agree with Ronald for the most part - in normal shooting situations, it's not generally noticeable. In certain situations, it is. Shooting an object against a uniform blue sky will show some light falloff, at least at wide apertures. Shooting monotone beigh walls will perform likewise. The hood shouldn't have any effect if it's sized properly.

If it really has an effect on your regular shots, then maybe it's better to try something different. The 24-70 does have better performance in terms of light falloff and in terms of distortion at the wide end, but you give up the extended range and IS for that. Some of the fast primes do as well, though they will exhibit light falloff at very wide apertures - laws of optics/physics.

A 24-70 on a 5D is still going to show light fall off at the wide end and with a large aperture. That's the nature of wide angle lenses on full frame bodies. It's easily corrected in Photoshop.
