That second shot is fantastic. Love the leaves in the foreground rocks.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Lol Touche! I'm going to take a stab. Maybe I'm elementary here but maybe about a 1/2-1 sec exp., f8 - f16, anywhere from 20-50mm, polarized filter, maybe direct placement of tree leaves, definately underexposed a bit, some selective saturation and exposure in the tree leaves, quite possibly some airbrushing in selective areas of the stream to get the rusty color, some secret filter that you won't tell us about, a tripod, and some feet possibly soaking wet.

Am I close or what??

Er, no. Generally I add exposure and other info but didn't have my source file with me, only web saved ones. But all shots ar f16, ISO50, poloriser and even perhaps an ND filter on the close up the rock.

I don't change the composure of the shot, add trees, deer, fish, leaves, rocks..etc..bit of a purist when it comes to look and feel. I do of course tweak shadows and balance. If I am converting to black and white maybe even burning!

:)

You were right about the feet though! :P

Great touch of color in #2, Neil. That water looks more like a river of Coke than wine! :-)

Well, again, really good stuff here. I thinks what really brings these out is the texture of the water, and the intensity of the tree leaves... and very rich color indeed!

[QUOTE=Neilyb;2199466]Well Saturday was a washout and then Sunday was a cloudless sky with bright wintery sun. But despite this I headed out and found a lovely beck which flows over Whitfield and Mill Gill, before entering the Ure. These were taken between the two falls. Recent rain had brought colour to the water, in some deeper pools it looked like red wine.

Those are real nice. May I ask again... what photoshop actions did you use for in the second image?

Well as I have said before I like to unexpose (for the highlights) and then pull back brightness with shadow/highlight tool where necassary. Any more would be telling but curves are used to help with contrast.
