The Tale of a Bird Cherry Tree - The End

Some of you may recall my thread about the Bird Cherry tree from a couple of months ago. Last weekend I walked along the same bicycle path for the the first time since summer. This is what I found...

The tree is gone and the surroundings have changed! There's new sand on the path, there's new light poles, and the surrounding ground has been flattened. It seems that the Park Department of our city has been active here... You can see the bend in the road - that's where the Bird Cherry tree used to be...

Here are the remnants of the poor tree. Cut down and left over.

It seems that the tree wasn't entirely healty inside. Maybe that's why it was removed. You can still see some of the web on the stem.
