I'm trying to decide on which lens is the best bang for the buck on these 3, and i'm not sure on which to choose. I would like to spend the amount fpr the Tamron and Sigma, but the reviews for the Canon seem promising, so i have no idea.

The canon has IS if you like to hand hold your camera while shooting... Especially if you are zoomed in to 300mm... that can definitely benefit you.

I doubt anyone has actually tried them all.. I think there are sample shots and writeups on them over in the Canon EF lens forum..

Personally I'd go for the Canon lens :)

Voted for Sigma but Tamron's new version can be good also.

why do people always forget to read the forum topics... this thread belongs in lenses section....

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

i voted for the canon, which is the better lens overall. though it will not be the most value lens - that will go to the sigma or tamron.

It is unfair to compare the Canon 70-300 IS with the others - optically it is a good lens ( unusually for Canon in this range) but the addition of IS puts it way ahead - these zzooms really need IS as they precipitate camera shake.

Of the other 2 lenses - the sigma APO macro has the better reputation, and puts the Canon offerings in this range to shame. It also puts the older incarnations of the IS canon 75-300 lenses to shame.

To anyone considering one of these, I'd say go for the IS version if you can afford it, otherwise the sigma is the best.

It's a no brainer that the canon IS would be better, the interesting pole might be between the Sig and Tam...
