I haven't reshot the previous sundrop spiral shot (seen here), but I did finally get around to processing this one from the same shoot.

It doesn't have a name yet, suggestions? Comments?

Nice abstract but I prefer the original version. I think this one's missing the spatial arrangement and depth of the first. Maybe it's cropped to tight?

Best regards :)

It's only cropped to a square (full height of the original, left side cropped off). I shot it a lot closer than the previous one.

Do you prefer the effect when you can see the image in the refraction also in the background?

Not to worry - it doesn't replace the other one. It's just another in the series. ;)

Athena,

The two shots are so different they are hard to compare. I like this second shot a lot. I like the square format, and because the yellow card is on a black background it looks like the card has cut outs rather than a black spiral thingy in front of it. putting the yellow on diagonal with the spiral straight makes a strong composition. If one does not do this type of photography, he/she does not know the time and patience it takes to get a shot like this. Well done! Keep sharing.

I haven't done table top photograpy in years, but your excellent images make me want to get back to it.

Glad to see your sweet face back on the avatar again.

Bob

I like this one, and the other one. Very interesting subject matter. I think it's the colors in the first one that pop a little more. The yellow here is nice, but I think the lack of the 'stronger' orange (as in the first one) is what is missing here.

Nonetheless, both have their own status. One speaks to me, while the other is calm. Good job...and maybe something you would describe a bit more...as to 'how' these came about.

Not always, but if it looks anything like the one you posted on the other thread i'd say absolutely :) I think it adds dimension to the image.

Also agree with KYBOB who wrote "The two shots are so different they are hard to compare" And that you did a great job with this one.

Cheers

Well, I cannot name it, but I know what it is. It is a snake working its way through a spiral tube that's got drainage holes. Right?

I love the whimsy. Thanks for sharing...

cool!

it's pretty abstract, so how about an abstract name, like...."gravity" or "surface tension".

or...less abstract, but more of an oblique reference, like "waterfall".

I know it's from November, but I'm only from January, ...it's really cool. And BTW the Baby Bits collages on your website are fantastic...

Thanks for the lovely comments - makes me want to do another in the spiral series. Haven't done any in ages.

And thanks also Scott for your comment on the BB Collages. :)

Beautiful shots, loved that since I first saw it. "Sundrops" is a good title for me, as is "Catching a Bit of Sun".
