So below 1/60 roughly? Is that just for the piece of mind that the is won't be trying to move around and cause false movement needlessly?

For me, I'm simply following the rough 1/(focal-length) rule. I am pretty confident being able to hold a shot steady at 1/FL. But if I'm at 55mm and my read-out is telling me the shutter will be 1/15s on a static object, it would be foolish for me to assume that the photo will come out crystal clear. It's easier for me to switch on the IS and let it do its job.

So when using my 55-250is... assuming I'm zoomed out at 250, if my shot is looking slower than the 1/250s, then that's when I'll switch it on. But if conditions are optimal, then there's absolutely no need for me to have the IS on. That's like leaving all the lights on in your house when you leave. The bulbs will burn out eventually and it'd be my fault for letting them burn out prematurely. :D

Yeah, I thought that as well. It was hand held though.

You should get it...I gave in to temptation (sold my 17-40L) for this lens.

I was on a "all prime" kick for a while but got tired of switching lenses all the time (getting old and lazy I think) so I got one. So far I'm pretty impressed. It is prime-like sharp and the colors are realy nice too. I can see it becoming a favorite soon ...

I like mine as far as the IQ and fast focus but do not care for the sticky zoom. The zoom sticks just a little bit around the halfway point so it does not alway turn smoothly. In other words, it tends to feel a little tight in places when zooming a small increment at a time. I tested a brand new one at the store recently and I noticed it did the exact same thing so it seems to be a common build issue and not just my copy. I'd take the 16-35 over this lens any day despite the lesser range.
