Friends,

I just picked up today my copy of this lens. Thanks to many people, reading, researching, narrowing down my preferences and priorities, reading this entire thread (some parts over and over again! :) ) and, in no small part, to a PM by jwcdds, I decided on this over the 15-85, the 17-40L, and the 24-105L.

I have to say this thread was a great source of information and something you just can't hope to find in many places: actual every-day use of the lens by photographers from all backgrounds, styles and qualities. Thanks for this invaluable asset! The images here finally turned my decision.

So, I wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully there will be tons of pictures to share here. It was an overcast and dull day for shooting, but here's a brief hand-held image from tonight at 55mm @2.8 at 1/8th ISO800... poor choices since I probably should have used a smaller aperture to have more of the carving in focus, less ISO and a tripod, but I wanted to taste the 'available light' appeal of this lens.

Thanks again everyone, specially jwcdds, best regards,
Rafa.

I have to admit I was not sure about this lens when I bought it. Seemed like I might have wasted my money. Until I saw the results and good grief! Wow was I impressed. Almost every shot taken with this lens at f2.8 is a keeper for sharpness!

Cat photo is a 95% crop. Mountain one is at f2.8 at 55mm.

Some really great exposures from this lens here. I just ordered mine last night w/ filter & hood along with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM w/ filter/Hood and should have it by Thursday from B&H. I can't wait!
