Love this lens. Spent a week with it at Disneyworld and never felt like I needed anything else... It's a Small World: IMAGE LINK: http://s1373.photobucket.com …1816_zpse4927470.jpg.html 7D | 8mm 3.5 FE | EF-S 10-22 | EF-S 17-55 2.8 IS | EX DC 30 1.4

May 21, 2014 08:08 | #5801 Incredible shots. I took a look at some of your other rattlesnake shots. I assume you are taking precautions, but I'll never understand why guys like you and Steve Irwin place yourselves in such precarious situations. I know that rattlesnakes can only make those lightning fast strikes within about a foot to 18" -- still, I don't think I'd ever shoot that close. 7D | 300D | G1X | Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 | EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 | EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro | EF 85mm f/1.8 | 70-200 f/2.8L MkII -- flickr

I know that rattlesnakes can only make those lightning fast strikes within about a foot to 18" -- still, I don't think I'd ever shoot that close. Usually I shoot them with a little bit longer lens, but I wanted to show more context this time. All the times I have photographed rattlesnakes I have never been struck at and I make sure to stay outside of striking distance. I also use a spotter with a snake stick to tell me to get out of there if it starts moving towards me. I guess I probably take some indue risk, but I have never really felt threatened around them, they usually calm down pretty quick. Canon 7Dmkii, 6D
