A quick question: I just picked up a used "like new" 17-55. It's working fine but the the other day, the f stop was stuck at 00... I think it was two digits. Anyway, turning the camera off and on didn't fix it but removing and reinstalling the lens did. Was this just a bad connection or is it a prelude to something more serious?

I don't think that there is any way to tell from that. IF you have a return period, you might consider sending it back - if not, then just use it and see what happens. I had a brief issue with my 10-22 not focusing... took it off, put it back on and now more than a year later it's still going strong.

My 17-55 doesn't do this, but my 60mm macro does. When it does, I grasp the lens securely and tilt it a bit in its mount. The connection is restored. Saves me from having to take it off and put it on again. Sometimes there's a bit of play in the connections I guess. Once tilted and the connection is restored, it doesn't display the 00 again. It's only when I first put it on, and then only sometimes.

And my 60mm was purchased new, not used. A small foible that never really came to anything, hundreds of shots later. Several hundreds.

Nice, no clouds. You should have gone up there at night.

Gorgeous colors.

Thanks. We only went there once during our week stay, we went during the day with the whole family. The drive going up there is not really bad at all and it was our first time to Maui so we mostly stayed in the resort. We are planning to go to Maui again next year and I think I will go up there before sunrise.

I've been there numerous times and have yet to get there before noon. Twice past 9pm though and got back to Lahaina ~1am. Also, I don't feel like waking up at 3am and it is waaay too cold up there.

It was very windy when we are up there. I don't think I will try night time there unless I am with a fellow photographer and if I am a passenger. I wonder what kind of picture do you get at night. Do you go there during full moon?

Using a 7D,300/4,1.4xII I was taking pictures of the Orion nebula.
More for entertainment value than photography value.
