How does this lens compare to the 18-55mm IS II kit lens or 18-55mm IS STM lenses? IQ is the main purpose I'm looking for in the f2.8 territory. I understand it has lower levels of CA. What about sharpness, distortion? Does this lens even worth it by today's standards (~$1000.00 in my country)? Does it stand up against the Sigma 18-35mm Art lens?
I've made it to page 80 in this thread, and went through all pages in the Sigma thread. Still can't make up my mind.

Thank you!

I do not know the Sigma lens but this 17-55 is like an L lens regarding IQ, only the build quality is at the lower end. I really liked it, I sold it because I am a more teleshooter and the Canon 24-105 is more versatile to me, plus I have the Canon 10-22 to cover the wide angle territory.
I definitely recommend the 17-55, it also has IS which was important to me.

what about the IQ difference between the 17-55 and the 24-105 on a full frame body?

The 17-55 is an EF-S lens, it fits only on crop sensor cameras, you cannot use it on full frame cameras.
I used these lenses on a 7D, IQ was the same in my opinion.

Unfortunately the 17-55mm gives inconsistent AF with the 7D2 (and other bodies) in my experience and those of some others too.

Not quite sharp. 17-55mm and 7D2.

(Good enough for the web, I guess.)

Tangle Falls.
Sometimes I get sharp results. This was taken on the 40D.

Been a very long time since I've been out with the camera, but a recent trip to Aston Hill Bike Park got my snapping away!
