Some really great pictues here guys and gals. I have decided to make the investment and get this lens with my new 40D. The f/2.8, IS and crop factor are all winning points for me.

Wowww, this lens is my dream!!! I'm very tempting... I have actually Tamron 17-50, very good lens but.... stabilization, stabilization.... I can buy this lens in Chinaarts a 620€... but i'm not sure if is worth the upgrade... Any suggestions? Thanks.

I upgraded from that lens and it was well worth it. Sharper, faster and IS. The sharpest Canon lens out there.

me - about half the time i use the lens
depends what environments you are shooting in

its great/essential for wedding receptions & dimly lit churches, for example

Very often.

It's on all the time, so it's hard to specify a % of my shots that really needed IS, but with this lens the keeper rate is very high.

Well my 70-200 is sharper, but the 17-55 is pretty good. I've started to shoot mainly RAW now and the 17-55 really seems to benefit from some smart sharpening - seems to bring back lots of detail.
