I guess the 17-55 IS 2.8 is the lens to replace any of my walk abouts as an upgrade.

A few of mine.

I recently purchased a 24-70 f/2.8L, I must say the extra width of the 17-55 for my style of shooting comes in handy and the IS is a plus. Colors seem to be better with the L however, you can never win I guess.

I've heard this from time to time ... how are the colours better with an equivalent L (like the 17-40)? Are they just richer? More saturated?

Still loving my 17-55! :D

Haha, I'm sorry to resurrect that memory for you. What was your major? When did you graduate?

The colors on the 17-55 are usually cooler than L glass. A slight nudge on the Temp slider can fix it if you desire.
