I just got my 100-400L last week and I'm anxious to try it with a TC. Which do you have? How's the IQ?, and What's your experience with it? Does it autofocus?

Thanks,

John

Remember unless you have a 1-series camera you will loose autofocus with some of the extenders.

I had "heard" that not all canon lenses (or Nikons either for that matter) work with Sigma's TC. 'Shows what I know!

Hi

Tried using my Sigma 1.4 with the 100-400. Focusing was VERY slow (on a 1d mk2 n). This was trying to shoot bikes on a race track and I wanted a touch more reach but it was not really useful.

All the best

Keith

I've tried the Canon 1.4TCon with the 100-400L, and the pins taped, and the autofocus was really slow and hunted alot, not very effective for sports or birds in flight. Even on a tripod the degragation of IQ was too much. I don't think I'll use that combo again.

I have used my Kenko 1.4 infrequently with my 100-400 with the pins taped. It does a good job of autofocus but is really slow and does hunt a wee bit. It would not work for moving objects, but for stationary ones is quite acceptable.

100-400 in the pipeline for me, do I count? :D

Going to stick my 1.5 Kenko Teleplus SHQ (not the same as the Pro300 series). The difference is that this is a non-reporting TC, does not announce itself to the camera, so it will still attempt to AF. Have no idea whether it will actually SUCCEED in AF.

I use it on my 70-300 with outstanding results. On a 350D, this combo has to have AF manually disabled if not it REALLY messes with the lens motor. On a 5D it will rack the focus but the lens motor will hunt forever so you should disable AF anyway. What I like is that in MF mode you still get the focus confirmation dots and beep, and the results are very good.

Haven't tried it on the 1-series yet....I should, actually :)
