I've been remiss in posting more football. Here are a couple from last weekend.

Friday night was a one of the darker fields that I visit in the rain and mud.

Not as muddy as some, but the guys in white were eliminated giving mom plenty of time to wash those uniforms.

Saturday I finally got to shoot in the daytime when the big light is on!

Just close your eyes and throw the ball... if the football gods are with you it'll get to your reciever.

It's okay to cry when you score the winning touchdown, your team mates won't think anything less of you.

Thanks for looking!

These are some wonderful shots. I've noticed that alot of people in here take great shots. I was wondering how much time is spent enhancing these pictures or are they straight from the camera to this forum? I am completely new to this and i'm starting to shoot sports (mainly football) and am just in awe at the quality of pictures you have. I know experience is to credit for most of it but what can someone new like me do to take this quality of picture. Any help is appreciated and keep posting these awesome shots.

First of all, thanks for the kind words. I don't think I'm all that great compared to some around here, but I've gotten a lot better in my 3 years of football shooting, a lot in part due to this forum.

These shots here are very lightly processed. A little bit of crop action and some sharpening. The night ones have been run through Neat Image as well to remove some of the noise since they were shot at ISO 3200, but that's basically it.

A great place to start is to read through the Sports shooting toutorials and advice sticky. There is some great stuff there. GMEN, IMO one of the best sport shooters on this forum, had a fantastic thread about light with examples there that is unfortunately missing the images. I really hope they come back some time, or are replaced with other examples, because it was a really great thread.

Thanks for looking!

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the shots with the Redskins in them. What is up with that color? I have about 3 teams I shot this year whose uniforms are the same color and nothing makes them look life like. Everything else is fine, skin tones, opponents colors, turf....everything but that damn color.

I think actually shooting at night has made me lazy! I'm used to finding my base setting, and where the dark parts of the field are and making minor adjustments based on where the play is. Saturday however the sun kept playing hide and seek with the clouds, and then the shadow from the stands, total chaos! Or I could be complaining because I actually had to pay closer attention and work a little more...

I know exactly what you mean! I have a love/hate relationship going to this field. I love the little town; they have a great football tradition, always treat me really well when I go there, have a tasty seasoned porkchop sammich at one of their consession stands, but photographically it's usually a rough night. They have one of the darkest fields I see, and that uniform just absorbs light like a bunch of mini black holes. I always end up looking at my pics and feel that they are lacking. It might also not help that I usually end up seeing them play the guys pictured, who always wear white.
