In my travels around the USA, I visited Washington DC and one of the places I visited, which fascinated me was Abraham Lincoln Memorial and to see the statue made of white Georgia marble in blocks as high as 19 feet tall.

I must be a difficult challenge for Photographers to photograph this statue as there is little light coming from the front and to get the white right. I used a custom white balance and took the shot at an angle to get the best source of light to try to get it right.
What do you think?

The second image is a front shot and my two daughters are standing front to give an idea of size. shot with 24mm. Unfortunately though I managed to clip off the left edge of the statues stand, shows I don't always concentrate.

Nice shots - I was there on a Sunday lunchtime in June so you can imagine the crowds! (some pics on my site)

I liked the tablets with the inscriptions on off to the side. Did you see it at night? I drove past it lit up but did not get any pics - spectacular.

1st of October was indeed a good time to have less crowds, there was enough there to be quite a crowd but at the height of summer I can only imagine what's it like.
The USA visit was my best one so far.

I read all the inscriptions on the side Al and learned a few of his quotes.
I visited the place both in the day and also at night, night time was fascinating.

Nice capture. I pretty much got the same 1st shot as you did back in May. That whole area is a nice place to shoot. I had to crop some people from my photos though :). Here's mine:

Tony, I was here a few years ago, pre Digital SLR, and you are quite right about the lighting. You did all the right stuff in your first image and really brought out the contours and dimensions.

#2 would have been impossible when I was there. I would have had about 8 other familys in my photo as well.

Thanks Stefan, Becky, Chris and les.
Good to see another photographer Stefan with the same image, noticed you managed to get the inscription above the head too, well done.
And Les, never thought of doing in B/W a very good suggestion.

1st one is the best angle you could ever shoot it Tony,it looks very magestic.
I wonder though if you shot it in raw,the reason i ask is because i was thinking of a touch underexpossure, some of the whites are overexpossed.

Though I shoot regularly in Raw Dimitri, I shot Jpeg in the USA and Canada, reason being is because of the amount of photos I took, for example I returned with 1,700 shots after visiting the states of New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ottawa in Canada and a couple of others.
