Nov 10, 2006 15:56 | #77 Well as I have mention in my last thread the 70-300 IS goes and the 80-400 stays (70-300 at 200 with 1.4 TC beats 80-400 at 400 on sharpness and contrast. At 400 the Toki has similar resolution to that I saw on the Canon 90-300 USM (sort of painterly)). So I lose a stop, but gain 3 stops IS, better IQ and weight and USM! http://natureimmortal.blogspot.com

Is the focusing on the 300 NOT internal? I thought both lenses were like 8-10 inches in length (I guess that is not zoomed out and focused though or something?)

Anyway I think it's obvious the 300mm F/4 is my lens for its size .Yes, correct. Wanna buy a 300/4 IS? Mint condition, two owners, first one was a hobbyist who knows how to take care of good glass ("Cuz I'm replacing this one with a 500/4 IS"), second one just upgraded to 100-400 and never took the glass into difficult situations.

I was not willing to trade focal length for IS because I try to use a tripod for telephoto shots. I think construction is about dead even because I do not like the push pull action of the 100-400 compared to the zoom ring of the 50-500.
