had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot with my best friend and her family yesterday.

Shot in M mode and used 580 occasionally for fill (still learning flash)

C&C encouraged and appreciated!

Cute family! There is some weird vignetting going on as well as uneven softness/sharpness in the first two. Were these shot RAW? Some slight color cast issues...

PS: I also REALLY like the 2nd. It seems like you are portraying his lil character.

thanks. I added a slight vignette to the first two just for fun. I'll look at the sharpness on them, too. Maybe I can enhance that.

the lighting on the first one was all natural - we were in the shade. The second one I believe I used the 580 for slight fill on his face.

Very nice - looks like you got your 20D sorted out.

All the images are really quite lovely. The color, compositon, and smiles make the 3rd and 4th stand out for me. I don't care for the vignetting effect in 1 & 2 but #2 is really a very nice capture.

Yes, but it is still showing the uneven softness/sharpness. I can see you are smoothing the mother and the leaves are sharper than her. Looks odd to me. You should smooth them all or not at all, unless you have serious PP skills. The color also is not quite right. If you shot this RAW do the WB fixes there. Did you shoot these RAW?

I think what happened is it focused on the husband and child- if you shot the mom OOF then there's not much that can be done.
