Got my 17-40L today, and have not had a chance to use it yet. But like what I see as very positive comments from everyone on this lens. I don't think there was one BAD or Negative post on this one.

Anyway I know use the 28-75 Tamron as my walkaround lens. But wondering if anyone uses the 17-40L in that situation (as the everyday lens). Wondering if I would miss the extra zoom of the 75MM. But also hate to leave 2 Canon L lenses in the bag most of the time.

I used a 28-105 as a walkaround on film but mostly used the wide end, so I've found that the 17-40 has worked nicely in that regard. Paired with a 50 1.8 and a 70-200 it's a fantastic kit. I only need longer/faster primes to fill it out now :(.

This is a colleague of mine from the Czech Republic with shots he took on his first trip to the US. Excellent work.

I was happy using mine as a walkaround but depending on what you shoot it can be a tad short. That's why I just got a 17-70mm Sigma as a travel lens ... but still haven't sold the L. I like it.

I got the 17-40L when I got my 20D instead of the kit lens. Its been my general purpose, everyday lens ever since. I don't miss the upper end zoom at all (never had it). In fact, I don't have any lenses in the 40-70mm range and I don't miss it.

Exactly my thoughts. Though I haven't received my 24-105 in the mail yet. But My 17-40 was a great walkaround lens for me on my 20D, but I need a bit more of a reach, so I just bought the 24-105. I'm sure that will be me my walkaround lens from now on (not that the 17-40 is just going to sit in my bag).

I have both the 17-40 and 17-55 f/2.8 IS lenses. The 17-55 is a great everyday lens and only leaves my camera when I need to shoot super wide telephoto or macro. I never found the 17-40 to be very useful for that purpose because it did not go long enough. If I didn't still have my film cameras and D60 I would get rid of the 17-40. It is one of the few lenses I own that sit at home on the shelf most of the time.

I use the 17-40 as my walk about lens, and find it great for every day use. I have a thrifty 50 for low light and slightly extra reach, and the 70-200 f/4 ( my absolute favourtite lens) for outdoor candids and portraits, as well as tight landscapes.

I would give up the 17-40 ahead of the 70-200 but only because the kit lens duplicates the focal range, and the 70-200 is an amazing lens. but i sure would cry. I love my 2 baby L's

i used to own a 17-40, and its a great walk around lens on a 1.6 crop camera. Very Sharp, fast AF...

It was sold for a 10-22 since I was looking for a wide angle lens.
