I bought a "Bargain" 10D from KEH.com and was not provided a manual. I have a 30D already so most of this is cake but I have a question about a button on the back. I have no idea what it does, let alone if it even works:

If you've registered an AF point, pushing this button and the AF Selector/Enlarge button will switch AF to the registered AF point. With CFn 13-1, just pushing this button will switch to the registed AF point (page 70 of the 10D manual when you get a chance to download it from Canon).

Ohh ok. I was confused by that custom function as well. So that's a quick-access button for a common use FP of my choice. Gotcha!

Yep - I always had mine set to the far right point (for shooting in Portrait mode when i wanted the AF point closest to the eyes).

wonder why they didnt continue this feature onto the 20D. ive used in on my 1D and it would be handy for the 20D. or did they hide it somewhere else?

If you're an FEL user and lost the use of FEL when you set the "*" button for focusing, you can reassign the FEL button to the "X" button. I have no idea why Canon did away with that button because it can be very useful to a lot of people.

I have really enjoyed that feature on the 10D - they should have continued it with other cameras.......

What did you pay for your 10D from KEH? It looks to be in pretty good shape.

I don't know about the 20D but on the 30D they added a little toggle for all the focus points, and pressing the toggle straight down vs wiggling it one way or the other sets it to the center. So really I like it a little better since it's faster to get to ANY point.

I gave $429 including shipping. It was listed as "bargain" condition. It's not too bad but there are more nicks and paint missing on the front and sides than this back view shows. I'd venture to say they weren't very conservative in rating this one. :p

yes its on the 20D aswell. but one button to change from center to sat, far left would do me a world of good lol.

This is actually one of the reasons I bought the 1DmkIIn over the 5D.

I've never gotten used to that silly little joystick. It's always going to an AF point other than where I want it or I'll inevitable press the stick too hard and end up with the center AF point.

But with the 10D (and the 1D series cameras), you can have two sets of AF points at your disposal with the use of the "X" button. I have my "*" set to the center AF point and the "X" button set so that when I keep it pressed, the camera switches to auto focus point selection (or vice versa). And in AIServo mode, those two settings work out very well for me, especially when I'm tracking a bird in flight.

Hey this sounds pretty sweet. How do you configure that? Maybe I'm misinterpreting the custom functions...but I can't figure that out.

Use C.Fn-07 to register your home position. In my case, it was either C.Fn-07=1 or 4, depeding on which button I wanted to use for the center AF point and which one for the AFPS. Whatever is not set here is what I have my "*" button set for.

Then set C.Fn-13 to select the home position. I have mine set to C.Fn-13=2 so that the home position is selected only when I am pressing the "X" button. When you release the "X" button, the AF point reverts back to what it was previously. If you don't have it set this way, what you'll find is that your focus points has been set to the home position and whatever you had set up for the "*" changes to the home position AF points. You have to use C.Fn-13=2 if you want access to two different AF points.

Ohh ok I gotcha. I wasn't understanding what "while pressing" meant.
