Just wondering if any members have sold there 1 series camera to get the 5D and happy with the switch. What concerns me is the 3FPS and the build compared to the 1 series. I have heard that the results right out of the camera are much better. I am not doing much birding but still will be doing sport shooting of my kids.

Yes I did and several months later, I am still thrilled with the change. I do miss the 8 fps, on the rare occasion (when I'm trying to capture an in-flight bird), but since I'm mainly a landscape photographer (or large animals) I don't miss it too much. (And I picked up a 30D for when I need speed, because I never used the high speed on the MKIIN just the 5fps). It is the image quality that won me over from my very first shoot with the 5D. Some don't find it to be much different but I totally did. Shadow details are magnificent and I do find the higher ISO to be better than the results I was getting with the MKIIN. I'm much more careful though about not having the camera in wet situations...that's what I miss more than the 8fps....weather sealing. Would I go back if someone offered me a MKIIN for my 5D? Nope. I do have more trouble with dust...no idea why...probably the lack of weather sealing...but I've gotten quite used to the fact that my sensor must be cleaned more often than I used to do with the MKIIN.

You might get better results posting this in the right forum....Not exactly a G series question.;) Perhaps you can con a nice mod into moving it.

Well I have shot with the MKII on many many ocasions and I loved it, the look, the feel and the IQ was great. But when it came time to upgrade from my 20D to the 5D or MKII I went with the 5D. I love my 5D, I still have my 20D for when I go in the dirt and need a faster camera.

I have been doing some head shots and LE with my 5D and love it, I still use the MKII to compair but I am not ready to make the change. Ill wait for the "upgrade" to come out

Hey, I thought it was the weight that got you? :)

I just supplemented my 1D MKIIN with the 5D. So now I have the best of both worlds.

It was the weight...I can't believe I didn't mention that...it's been my moan about that camera since day one. But I do miss the weather sealing...

...and you do have the best of both worlds! :)

I have never held a 1 series camera... I know that would just be death if I did... Because weight doesnt bother me really. I love my 5D with grip and 70-200 combo... The heavier the better... I just feel more balanced with a good load for some reason.

Some day I will have my dream 1 series camera.

I kinda switched Dan. I traded my 1dsmk2 for a N and 5D. 3fps is SLOW. But I have the N for shooting sports. Results right out of the camera are really subjective. Shooting jpeg, for me it is all about the settings. Raw, well I really dont look at it as a right out of the camera issue as I am planning to do PP work. 5D focus is not that of a 1 series. Took my 5D and 580 out on halloween night and focus was a ****!! should have brought my N as I know it would have had better focus ability. My 1dsmk2 was awesome in LL compared to my 5D. 2 processors is much better for AF as I can definitely see a speed and accuracy difference and it shines in hard focus conditions.

I know this will make MDJAK happy, but I really do miss my 1dsmk2. 5D is very sweet. Nothing comes close to the 1 interface, build or AF. Nothing. Anyone want to trade a 1dsmk2 for a 5D plus $$$ just PM me. (Serious offer here!) On hindsight, I should have just got a divorce and gotten a N to compliment my 1dsmk2.

When i do jpg, i just shoot neutral, and then post process after. But if you can tweak the parameters if need be, if you want straight out of the camera.
