Enroute to the apple growing capital of China in Northern Shaanxi Province, our bus stopped for an early morning bathroom break. This unfenced cemetery was less than ten feet away from our stopping point.

Suggestions welcomed.

Enjoy!

No picture.

2 Samuel 9:7-8, "So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

Great shot but lose the branch in the upper right corner and definitely try a B&W conversion!

Mumbles,
I have the "official" Shaanxi Province tour guide instruction book, where tourists are taken to tombs throughout China, and introduced to them in detail, with cameras flashing continually. So,I thought I did, but am always willing to learn something new.
What are you referring to?

Thanks an interesting bumpy cemetary. Do the Chinese just lie the body on the ground and then heap soil over them?

Creepy. Reminds me of a level in a Xbox game called Black. I like this shot. Nice work.

There are many different forms of Chinese Burials. I am far from "expert," but we have seen a wide variety of their practices in the past year. This was the graveyard of a small village. It is not unlikely that everyone in the village had the same ancient family origins, and it is in a farming area. The fact there are gravestones generally suggests a measure of prosperity. In farm areas burial is in the mound. Those with a traditional Chinese Religion background include as part of the mound a "portal" of perhaps two feet in height and width, with a curved arch, usually of adobe or red brick, through which the spirit of the dead can pass. I did not enter the graveyard to see if there were portals.
One other "interesting" thing: The tree started as a small branch , cut from a tree and laid on a grave at the time of burial by a son of the deceased. The branch naturally took root. It is seen as a good omen for the deceased.

By the way, someone suggested a b/w version. Attached is my first attempt at converting to BW. Any suggestions are very welcome.

Enjoy!

I really like the B&W image. I looked over your entire China trip. Looks like you guys had a great time!
