The Heliopan and B+W filters use Schott glass, the same stuff that goes into Zeiss lenses. If it's good enough for Zeiss, I suppose I can live with it.

i was reading an interesting thread the other day on another forum and a couple of guys said that for the purpose of a CP you don't even need coated glass except in very rare situations.

the argument sounded convincing to me and i didn't see anyone refute the claim.

Interesting, and I suppose in some ways it makes sense. You use a CPL far less than a UV, which is often an "every day" kind of filter. Plus it's darker, letting less light in to bounce around. And of course the fact that you'll be using the filter at an angle to the sun (as opposed to being in the frame). Just the same though, I'll go for the maximum number of coatings possible...
