I would like to see what you guys think of this photo and the PP. There is some artifact on the left girls cheek that comes in when i export for web . Maybe its just a snapshot but this is the first time i really played with photoshop to " change " what came out of the camera.

The "artifact" that you are seeing there is nothing more than the"posterization" phenomenon that occurs when too much JPG compression is used.

I am familiar with the subway in Madrid from the period of the late 70's. Do the gypsies still leave a baby on a rug in the stairway landings as bait to get cash donations?

Actually the gypsies bring the babies with them on the train and make this big large speech about how they and their child are starving.....one of them had a leather purse hidden under her coat.

The majority of them are actors...it's a way they earn a living.

I worked for a couple of years in the late 50's for Gallerias Preciados in their photographip studio in Madrid.
The most exceptional City I have ever worked in. all that was missing then was much in the way of clasical music.
These are a few pictures from those long gone days.
It would be interesting to know if these spots have changed much.

Hi,
Im quite fortunate to live here and the classical music ( and many other varieties to include JAZZ ) is now pretty. good. The images from the Retiro i could recreate , but i have never seen the "Boule" or put another way i dont recognise that spot.

It was on some high ground over looking the university area.
I expect it is redeveloped now, but was always full of people during the evenings and weekends.

If you haven't done so already ..I highly recommend you make your way to Granada and see Lhambra, really the most (in my opinion) beautiful architecture in the world.

It was because of Spain and when I was there in June that I decided to eventually buy my Canon Digital rebel a month later...I fell in love with spain and then photography at the same time.

The place you show where the men are playing the bowling game looks like Plaza del Sol.

I once stayed for a week at a Pension directly across from Gallerias Preciados. The subway entrance for Plaza Callao was also at that same spot, and Plaza del Sol was just a short walk up the street.

No.. I lived in Calle de Gaztambide and it was some where between there and south east of Cuidad Universitaria.
where they played was on some hard packed soil in a park area over looking the university.
I have looked on Google earth and evey thing there is redeveloped now.

Times change... they were still building the university campus then.
The ruin you see in the picture was where Franco's troops entered Madrid at the end of the civil war It was kept as a sort of memorial.
