They were both at f/4, the second one being focused on the front bush. (I was fooling around trying to get the best 'look' for some silhouettes of my wife).

I disagree about the FG. You probably would have missed the stars then.

Where in CA is this at?

2 Samuel 9:7-8, "So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

Technicaly as a framing it works,it follows the rulles of 20-80.
It looks nice but if the sky had more interest it would probably look great, usually during the day.

Gliderport is just north of San Diego in the Torrey Pines area. Its on a cliff (~ 300') overlooking the ocean and is an area where hang gliders are very popular (hense the name I guess). We never would have found it, but another POTN member told us to check it out and I'm glad we did.

I agree.....we were in southern CA for four days and didnt see one cloud! So I have sunset shots from San Diego, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree National Park and Lake Forest but not one interesting sky!! Oh well.... we'll have to plan another trip :D

My uncle flies from there. I thought that might be the place. Winter is a better time for skies here in So Cal.

Nice stars, nice sunset, but the lacking foreground doesn't keep the eye that interested. The shot has alot of potential and you captured the colors and detail really well, just needs an anchor.

I'm captivated by that first shot, how the eye naturally goes from the sunset/horizon on up to the night sky. Brilliantly shot. Kudos.

I tend to ramble. Feel free to put me on ignore.
