Want to see a shot I took with it today? I thought you might.

If I wasn't an honest fella, it'd be home with me right now. They had it at the show today (PhotoPlusExpo) and I asked one of the many Canon Reps if I could try it on my camera. (You know, Dante, the very same one you traded away) He graciously agreed. I placed my 24-70 down on the counter in front of him. This was about 9 a.m., an hour before the show opens to the general public, and so there was very few people around.

I took the lens and walked over to Monte Zucker, a famous portrait photographer, whose seminar I attended Wednesday evening. I took this shot of him at f1.2. What'd ya think, ol Dante and PetShopBoy and the rest of ya? Should have bumped up the ISO for a slightly faster shutter speed. I kind of liked it, I'll tell ya.

So, without further ado:

Byte size: ZERO | Content warning: NOT AN IMAGE

Oh, yeah, so I then walk back to the Canon counter and the rep was in a panic, thinking I had left with the lens. He didn't even realize I had left my 24-70 right in front of him. Good thing nobody walked out with mine.

Then I tried the 400 DO, which I thought was rather slow focusing.

I then used the 300 f2.8 for a few shots. I'm in love.

The "Experimenter."

The experimenting dolt. So how'd you like the 50? Nice? How's it look full size? Was it fast to focus?

It was a lot of fun. But, and I'm sorry to say, if you're interested in attending one of his workshops, better do it sooner than later. He told us that he's been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has been given six months to a year to live. It was very sad.

wow...that's bad news. He's one of a handful of photographers that I am very interested in meeting.

The focus was quite fast; faster than my 85L, that's for sure. Maybe it has less to travel.

I was a bit surprised (and I know nothing about mathematics) that the front element was not as large as I expected. That's neither here nor there though.

When you say full size, please explain to me what you mean? Do you mean a hundred percent crop?

I have, shall we say, less than steady hands. ISO 400 would have given me a much better shutter speed. I was very close to him. This was at 1/50. The shot is not cropped at all. I did downsize it to 800 by ? for posting.

Try refreshing the page. I use Pbase as a hosting site and before a week or so ago never had this problem. If I refresh, it comes right back.

Any ideas why that is happening?

800x533. Yeah, I meant at actual pixels. Did it look decent? Did you take any other shots with higher shutter speeds? The front glass should be the same size as the 35L. wait...you don't have a 35L? What happened? Didn't you?

When you're viewing a shot from a hosting site, on another site, you have to wait for that site (POTN) to load it from the server (pbase).

To be honest, without sharpening, it didn't look as good as I thought it should. I don't know how to show you the actual pixels.

Nope, I never had the 35L. That's the one leg of the trinity I'm missing.
