This dark brown is so much harder to light nicely than white! I had to move the lights around a lot for each shot, and still aren't sure I got it right. C&C is welcome :). Canon 30D, 50mm 1.8, f5.6, 100 ISO, 1/250 shutter speed. Excuse the wrinkles, I just got the background this afternoon.

Oh, and a question. I want a better lens for portraits. I love the 50mm 1.8, but I have very limited space for a studio, and this lens is impossible to get families in the frame. I've been looking at the Canon 17-40mm f4. Is this good for portraits?

Congrats, I think you got it, good captures, I have the same problem. I love 50mm but my room is too smal....

I am definitely diggin the lighting and the background is pretty cool. but the pose on the first one is a bit feminine, if you dont mind me saying so.

Isis
A little trick for you.
I believe you have kept your muslin backdrop folded. Folds show. Stor it rumpled/crushed in a box or gym bag. Folds will not show as much.
Been there! Done that!

Heh, I have always had issues with thinking of guy poses. I guess I will stick with the chair.

DRC, thanks for the tip! I've never tried that but I can see what you mean.

A little update: I couldn't help it, I went out and got the 17-40mm today :).

The lens is "OK" for portraits, I did pretty much a whole shoot with mine last week, however, you'll need to keep it at the 35 - 40mm end to avoid facial distortion when close-up.

Superb lens though - you'll enjoy it!

The pose in #1 is too feminine. I doesn't fit the guy. On #2 his face is overexposed. Tone down that light.
